Hello America, my name is Jami Jannazzo, and I am running to be the next Vice President of the United States. With the help of my Presidential candidate Melissa Berman, we will surely make America the country it was meant to be. In the words of former president Franklin D Roosevelt: “If you treat people right they will treat you right... ninety percent of the time.” What this means to me is that you must always do what you feel is right, even if people may not agree. Even if this is true, you can’t let opinions overpower decisions.
I established my leadership skills towards the beginning of high school, when I applied to volunteer at an animal shelter. I wanted to make a change and help animals but, of course, help people at the same time. Making this choice helped me overcome personal struggles, but it showed me qualities that I didn’t know I had before. Being the youngest person on my shift was difficult; people never saw me as a trusted worker because I was the youngest volunteer. Other people didn’t see me as someone who could handle a lot of responsibility, but I didn’t let that stop me. I became one of the volunteers who had the most adoptions. Whenever someone would come in, other people on the shift would send them to me because they believed I could get it all done. I was told countless times that I had great people skills. I find that I’m an easy person to communicate with; I like to hear other people’s idea’s on how to solve problems, and allow others to voice their opinions.
President Thomas Jefferson once said, “We in America do not have government by the majority. We have government by the majority who participate.” Jefferson made sure that his presidency was one that would put America back on track, and could be one that could almost keep tabs on itself. All he wanted was the best for our great nation, and his presidency proved to be one of the most successful terms of our time. A lot of his methods have provided the basis of my campaign; following most of what the constitution implied, while still giving insight on all of our current issues.
A lot of the issues that are still faced today involve our foreign affairs. President Jefferson appreciated and respected the rules set by the constitution, and decided to use what was set by it as the basis for his government; a unified democracy. Even though problems face our country in hard times, our democracy at the core has always kept the nation grounded. With the growing threat of the terrorist group Isis on the rise, whenever they strike, we always fight back harder. Jefferson definitely would've wanted the same; the strong pride that Americans have for their nation cannot be matched with any attack.
One of Jefferson’s most accomplished reforms went with his push for a strong education. At the moment, we stand at a ranking of roughly the top 13% in world education. We have a basis for a great educational system that can thrive, but there’s too much extra stress on kids which hinders their ability to achieve. Jefferson would want the same opportunities for all of our students today; a high standard of learning which introduces the necessary subjects and topics needed for a quality education. With these, it is possible to turn the next generation into a group of heroes who will do anything for the well being of our country.
Another set of reforms of his had to go along with the Virginia Assembly’s economic standpoint. Much like today, Jefferson’s presidential term was deeply affected by the nation’s debt. He had a belief strongly in agrarianism, which is the economic policy that America receives a substantial portion of its income from agriculture. This started the plan for Jefferson to create an independent nation. For Jefferson, this was a genius plan; he allowed citizens to make their own decisions without the help of opposing views. If we don’t have this type of unity in today’s economy, our $18.7 trillion debt allowance won’t decrease in due time.
President Jefferson has also said, “Honesty is the first chapter in the book of wisdom.” My campaign is all about honesty and doing what is right for the benefit of America. It is clear what is putting the United States at a standstill; with our help, our nation will become a country where everyone will want to be a part of again. With just one step at a time, we can rewrite the rules like Jefferson did, and make a nation stronger than ever before. Thank you for your time.
